🇲🇪🇦🇱 Shkodra Lake Trip: Day 1 – 🇦🇱 Shkodër and 🇲🇪 Podgorica

On April 2025 for Easter I have decided to go deep into Balkans to place where I always wanted to go: 🇲🇪 Montenegro. I flew after work to 🇲🇪 Podgorica Airport (Day 0), since it was very late, I’ve took a taxi to my hotel (15euro) and slept for the next day.

On Day 1 I had already bought a ticket to city of 🇦🇱 Shkodër in Albania. The ticket cost 16 euro one way and 16 euro back, so total 32 euro. I walked from my hotel to bus station on foot, which were something like 4km. When I got to bus station in Podgorica, apparently I had also pay 2 euro of bus station tax, which was a shock for me, since the buses were already expensive. While waiting I ate also very good station Burek with meat (kinda like croissant with meat). The bus ride went smooth, and there were a lot of sights to see during that short 1.5h journey.

🇦🇱 Shkodër does not have a station, and the main road is under the repairs, so we just stopped at roundabout. I had 6 hours in the city before the return bus comes.

Then I went towards the icon of that city, which is Rozafa Castle. It was a bit of a challenge to go up the top on the slippery stones, but managed without any major problems. I did pay 400 LEK (around 5 euro) to enter the castle. What surprised me, is that you can go pretty much everywhere in contrary to any castle in Poland where most of the places are blocked for safety reasons.

I spent quite a few time on the castle, as there were not many people. After that I went down and went back, but by the path opposite to the one I took last time.

Then I went to eat something, I wanted to try something Albanian, so I tried really good Tave Dheu, which were kinda like stew or goulash.

Since I still have time I was wondering around, and even got to Dobraç, which is a village I believe? No map says for sure whether it is district or a village.

After that, there was quite a lot of chaos finding my bus, since the city doesn’t have bus station, and the bus stop is where the road works are. But with help of the builders I managed to find the stop. So you are probably thinking, that is a lot of walking, for sure he will go to hotel for the rest. . . Well no, so after taking a bus I went for sightseeing 🇲🇪 Podgorica.

🇲🇪 Podgorica is the capital of Montenegro, it has a beautiful orthodox cathedral and very Balkan vibe with a lot of Montenegro Flags.

There were few more sights in 🇲🇪 Podgorica, but I decided to go back to hotel by taxi, since I was really tired. My health app noted 31.62 km walked. I was heavily satisfied with my day 1.
