🇲🇪🇦🇱 Shkodra Lake Trip: Day 2 – 🇲🇪 Virpazar and Sutomore

Day 1 Here

During the night, I have already noticed my sun burns. The temperature was always between 8-15 degrees, but the sun was always there. I have not even thought I can burn in such low temperatures. I was burned on my face, nose, neck, arms. I decided I will not go to city of 🇲🇪 Niksic during the morning, since I needed a bit more rest, that plan was already quite packed, since I only would have 1 hour in that city anyways. Before the noon I wore my raincoat to cover from the sun and I went again by walking to the city centre, where train station was located. My destination was the village of 🇲🇪 Virpazar.

The trains in 🇲🇪 Montenegro are quite old, and the infrastructure was also not in the best shape, but we actually managed to go quite quickly, as the rails were actually new. The ticket cost 2 euro. I’ve reached Virpazar in less than an hour I believe. However it took me additional like 30-40 min of walking on the road full of cars to get to the docs at the Shkodra lake.

Weirdly enough, or maybe not in the village were a lot of people, and party music were heard, that is because today was the Easter day. I went towards Fortress Besac. What surprised me is that piece of history was remade into restaurant, so I was surprised when they asked me if I will eat there. But I managed to buy an entrance ticket, which I do not remember how much it cost. Not only the view was amazing, but also the Balkan party music was playing in the background, giving it even more Balkan vibe.

I went down and booked a 2 hours boat tour around the lake, which cost around 15 euro I believe.

After my lake tour I went back to the train station, to go to my next destination: 🇲🇪 Sutomore. While I was going back, there was an orthodox Christian Easter ceremony, I wanted to get a good footage, but suddenly they made a wall right in front of me, so the footage looks really too close and weird.

🇲🇪 Sutomore is a coastal town, which serves tourist in season. However since I went there before the season, most of the restaurants and hotels were closed. However 🇲🇪 Sutomore excels in its diverse view of mountains and sea.

Then I decided to climb a mountain in search of Tabija fortress. There was one of the hardest paths I have taken. . . and I didn’t find it. It seems this town has a lot of wrongly mapped points. But I made some pictures of the view from there. Since I still had time I went towards supposedly passable canal towards a secret beach spot, but it was not as passable as I thought.

After that, I went to one of the 2 open restaurants and ordered grilled squid, since I wanted to try something fishy, as I am at the sea. The dish looked appetising, but the squid was burned, so it was the worst meal I have ever had. But orange and orange juice were amazing. Fruits in Balkan countries taste much better than in Poland by a ton.

Lastly I barely managed to take a train back to 🇲🇪 Podgorica. That day I walked 19.20 km.
